Bandhan Bank enlists Rohit Shetty for cyber fraud awareness push

With online financial fraud losses at ₹22,495 crore and over 24 lakh complaints filed in 2025, Bandhan Bank is betting pop culture works better than compliance texts.

Most people completely ignore the dry "Do not share your OTP" text messages sent by their banks. Bandhan Bank realized this and decided to try something completely different.

Bandhan Bank has roped in filmmaker Rohit Shetty to front a nationwide cyber fraud awareness campaign called "Cyber Cop."

The move responds to a ₹22,495 crore national security issue: Indians filed over 24 lakh complaints of online financial fraud in 2025 alone.

Bandhan Bank's deepest retail footprint sits in Tier 2 and Tier 3 markets, where digital banking adoption is expanding fastest and scam exposure is rising alongside it.

Rather than relying on standard "Do not share your OTP" text alerts, which the bank says most customers ignore, the campaign uses Shetty's mass-market "cop universe" appeal to push a simple message: "Pause. Verify. Report."

Why it matters

For DSAs and connectors sourcing customers in Tier 2 and Tier 3 markets, fraud awareness campaigns like this directly affect trust in digital loan and banking journeys — the same channels agents use to onboard borrowers. A borrower who has been scammed, or fears being scammed, is harder to convert and slower to complete KYC or digital verification steps.

For lenders, the ₹22,495 crore fraud figure underscores a cost borne across the ecosystem: chargebacks, compliance overheads, and reputational risk that ultimately affect how freely banks and NBFCs extend digital-first credit through third-party distribution networks.
