ICICI Prudential AMC buys I-Sec's PMS arm to reach deeper into HNI wealth

The ₹2,910 crore PMS book earned ₹20.88 crore in FY26 — modest numbers beside the strategic point: mutual funds, then PMS, then AIFs and alternatives.

ICICI Prudential AMC Ltd isn't just buying a PMS business. It's buying deeper access to India's HNI wealth.

The AMC has received board approval to acquire ICICI Securities' Portfolio Management Services (PMS) business through a slump-sale transaction. The deal is still subject to the required approvals.

The PMS business had around ₹2,910 crore in AUM as of March 31, 2026, and generated ₹20.88 crore in FY26 revenue.

But the ₹20.88 crore revenue figure isn't what interests me most. The strategic direction does.

ICICI Prudential AMC Ltd is strengthening its presence across a broader investment ecosystem:

Mutual Funds → PMS → AIFs → Alternatives And that matters because India's wealth-management opportunity is moving beyond traditional mutual funds.

As affluent and HNI investors look for more sophisticated investment solutions, asset managers have an opportunity to capture a larger share of their overall portfolio—not just their mutual-fund allocation.

So this transaction isn't simply about acquiring another ₹2,910 crore business. It's about building a deeper relationship with India's wealthiest investors.

And that could make the competition between AMCs, wealth managers, private banks and investment platforms even more interesting.

The next wealth-management battle may not be about who manages the most mutual-fund AUM.

It may be about who owns the largest share of an investor's total financial relationship.

Do you think India's AMCs will increasingly move into PMS, AIFs and alternatives—or will private banks and wealth platforms remain ahead?

Why it matters

Asset managers moving up the wealth stack — from mutual funds into PMS and AIFs — signals where HNI and affluent-client competition is heading, and it sits next to the same clients many lending connectors already serve through referral relationships. One institution consolidating more of a client's financial relationship under one roof is also a preview of the kind of platform consolidation lending distribution is likely to face.
