One97 Communications Limited, Paytm's parent, has reported its first full-year net profit since its stock market listing, posting ₹552 crore in FY26 against a ₹663 crore loss in FY25.

EBITDA moved from a loss of ₹1,506 crore in FY25 to a positive ₹502 crore, an operating swing of more than ₹2,000 crore in a single year.

Revenue grew 22% year-on-year to ₹8,437 crore. Core payment services rose 20% to ₹4,646 crore, while financial services distribution — loans and wealth products — jumped 52% to ₹2,594 crore.

The turnaround came from cost discipline rather than a single strategic pivot. Marketing expenses were cut nearly in half, from ₹508 crore to ₹275 crore, and employee costs fell from ₹3,288 crore to ₹2,765 crore, aided by automated AI workflows in merchant onboarding and customer service.

Why it matters

The 52% jump in financial services distribution to ₹2,594 crore shows loan and wealth product referrals are now a high-margin growth lever for Paytm even as core payments growth moderates. For DSAs and connectors partnering with Paytm's network, this signals continued investment in distribution of credit products rather than a retreat.

The results also demonstrate that a fintech can recover profitability after regulatory restrictions on its Payments Bank by leaning harder into loan distribution and financial services revenue — a template lenders and NBFCs working with digital distribution partners will watch closely.
