Approved by the Board of Directors following recommendations from the Risk Management Committee and Nomination and Remuneration Committee, the appointment complies with Regulation 30 of SEBI (LODR) Regulations, 2015, and RBI Master Circular No. RBI/DOR/2025-26/180. Concurrently, incumbent CRO Yogesh Dixit—who held the bank's risk mantle for nine years since 2017—has been redesignated as Head – Governance Projects.

A 26-Year Multi-Tier Banking Risk Pedigree

Operating alongside MD & CEO Baskar Babu Ramachandran, Alok Pathak steps in with over 26 years of banking and financial services experience, including more than eight years specifically serving as a Chief Risk Officer:

  • Institutional Track Record: Prior to joining Suryoday Small Finance Bank, Pathak held senior risk mandates across Utkarsh Small Finance Bank, Axis Bank, SBM Bank (India), and Oriental Bank of Commerce.
  • Retaining Institutional Memory: Outgoing CRO Yogesh Dixit, who brings over 36 years of development finance and regulatory expertise and has been with Suryoday since 2015, transitions to spearhead strategic governance initiatives.

Strategic Imperative: SFB Asset Quality & Portfolio Transition

For Small Finance Banks (SFBs) navigating rural microfinance credit cycles and gradual portfolio diversification toward secured retail assets (commercial vehicles, affordable housing, and MSME loans), the CRO seat is critical:

  1. Credit & Underwriting Guardrails: Pathak’s prior CRO experience at peer Utkarsh SFB and private lender Axis Bank equips Suryoday with battle-tested credit-risk models across both Joint Liability Group (JLG) micro-credit and secured retail books.
  2. Governance Continuity: Transitioning a nine-year CRO veteran like Dixit into a dedicated Governance Projects mandate ensures zero loss of regulatory memory during the handover.

Why it matters

Finsamudra Takeaway

By pairing an external SFB and private-bank CRO veteran with the internal retention of its long-serving risk chief in a dedicated governance role, Suryoday Small Finance Bank strengthens both its frontline credit-risk defense and board-level compliance architecture.
