The new leadership is steering the 60-year-old wealth manager toward digital transformation and algorithmic advisory, aiming to compete with new-age wealth-tech startups.

➤For decades, Bajaj Capital has been a cornerstone of legacy wealth management in India. But the wealth management industry is changing at a breakneck pace, and legacy trust alone

60-year-old traditional wealth managerFirm's legacy in wealth management

Bajaj Capital, a long-standing name in Indian wealth management, has named Jai Bajaj as its new Managing Director and CEO.

His mandate centres on moving the firm from a legacy, relationship-based advisory model to one built on digital and AI-driven tools.

The strategy has three stated pillars: modernising the firm's traditional distribution network, shifting toward algorithmic and data-driven financial advisory, and equipping existing advisors with modern tech stacks to compete with new-age wealth-tech startups.

The leadership change frames this as a test of whether a decades-old traditional wealth manager can pivot to an AI-driven model without losing its existing legacy client base.

Why it matters

Bajaj Capital's distribution network includes a large base of advisors who function much like DSAs and connectors in the lending ecosystem. A tech-enabled, data-driven overhaul of this network signals where wealth and financial distribution generally is headed — toward hybrid models that combine human relationships with algorithmic decisioning.

For lenders, DSAs and connectors watching from the credit distribution side, this is a signal that legacy distribution-heavy institutions across financial services are under pressure to modernise their advisor networks rather than compete only on trust and scale.
