Punjab & Sind Bank targets ₹4 lakh crore business by FY29, needs ₹50,000 Cr added yearly

The Delhi-headquartered PSB is betting on automated underwriting, cloud-native infrastructure and a shift to retail, agri and MSME lending to hit a target that traditional branch expansion can't deliver.

Punjab & Sind Bank has set a target of ₹4 lakh crore in total business by FY29, up from its current base of ₹2.66 lakh crore. To get there, the bank needs to add roughly ₹50,000 crore in fresh business every year — a pace it says traditional branch expansion alone cannot support.

To close that gap, the bank is rebuilding its operating engine around three pillars. First, automated underwriting to digitize credit assessment and cut loan processing times from days to minutes.

Second, cloud-native technology: the bank is deploying private cloud infrastructure to support high-frequency digital banking transactions.

Third, a portfolio shift away from low-margin corporate loans and toward higher-yield Retail, Agri, and MSME (RAM) segments.

Digital transformation at this scale has historically been the domain of top-tier private lenders and mega-PSBs like State Bank of India. Punjab & Sind Bank's roadmap signals that cloud architecture and automated lending are becoming necessary tools for mid-sized public sector banks too.

Why it matters

A shift toward RAM segments and automated underwriting means faster loan decisions and more origination volume for connectors and DSAs working with Punjab & Sind Bank — days-to-minutes processing directly reduces drop-off in the sales funnel.

For lenders, the ₹50,000 crore annual growth target signals aggressive appetite for retail, agri and MSME book expansion, which is exactly where DSA-sourced business tends to concentrate — creating a growing distribution opportunity as the bank scales beyond branch-led sourcing.
