Bank of Baroda has launched bob SAMVAD, an in-house developed AI platform designed to remove language barriers in branch banking. The system enables real-time, two-way communication across 22 Indian languages, allowing customers and staff to interact seamlessly even when they do not share a common language.

Customers can speak or type queries in their preferred language, which the platform instantly translates into the staff member's chosen language—and vice versa. The system leverages AI-driven speech and language technologies to deliver low-latency, natural and contextually accurate conversations.

The platform was launched by M. Nagaraju, Secretary of the Department of Financial Services, signalling government backing for technology-driven and inclusive banking solutions. Bob SAMVAD represents a practical application of AI to address India's linguistic diversity at the operational level.

Why it matters

For loan DSAs and connectors working across India's geographically diverse networks, this kind of linguistic infrastructure matters directly. When bank branches can serve customers in their native language without intermediaries or friction, it smooths the entire customer journey—from inquiry to application—reducing dropout rates and improving conversion likelihood.

Lenders and Main DSAs benefit from faster, more accurate customer interactions that reduce misunderstandings and errors at the point of sale. As banks scale operations into tier-2 and tier-3 markets where linguistic homogeneity is lower, platforms like bob SAMVAD reduce the cost and complexity of field deployment, enabling smoother credit distribution.
